Can you assign some or all of a components attributes as required fields "*"?

Currently attributes can not be set to be required. With that in mind since we support the following attribute types it would be helpful to understand how each would be handled if you could make an entry required.

Character String - an entry of some kind would be required
Checkbox - not sure if this could be required since its either selected or not
Currency - a numeric entry would be required
Decimal - a numeric entry would be required
Drop down list - not sure that this could be required since one of the options would be selected at all times
Integer - a numeric entry would be required
Text Area - an entry of some kind would be required

Perhaps with the exception of checkbox and drop down a option to make the attribute required could be offered.
